About Gary C. Tyler

Gary C. Tyler is a partner at Hinman, Howard & Kattell and chair of the Workers’ Compensation and Disability Benefits Practice Group. Gary is experienced in handling all matters involving Workers’ Compensation Law, including representing injured workers, representing businesses in disputes with the Workers’ Compensation Board, and contesting workers’ compensation insurance audits.

Gary has been recognized as one of New York’s 10 Best attorneys for client satisfaction in workers’ compensation, and he has also been recognized as one of the “winningest” attorneys in New York State in workers’ compensation matters at the Appellate Division.

Many disabled individuals are entitled to benefits from multiple sources, and it can be difficult to know how to coordinate these benefits in order to maximize income or recovery. Because of his knowledge in this area, Gary is frequently consulted by other attorneys about the interplay between workers’ compensation, Social Security, long-term disability, New York State disability retirement, and General Municipal Law Section 207 benefits. Gary takes the time to review these issues with his clients to ensure that they receive the maximum workers’ compensation award possible for schedule loss of use, permanent disability, or settlement with minimal negative affect on any other benefits.

Gary has also lectured throughout the area to various businesses and workplace groups regarding workers’ compensation law compliance and the rights of injured workers. He has successfully represented many businesses in negotiating favorable settlements of penalties and assessments made against these businesses by the Workers’ Compensation Board.

A native of Binghamton, Gary practices throughout New York State. He devotes time to participating in community activities as an active member of the Board of Directors of the Discovery Center Foundation, and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Discovery Center and of the SOS Shelter. He is a member of the Broome Leadership Institute Class of 2011 and the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce Livewires Class of 2010.
